March 19th - April 13th
Fotografisk Center is proud yet again to present the Danish Press Photography Awards.
This is a recurring and popular event that always generates enormous public interest.
The Photo of the Year is taken by Gregers Tycho Axelsen, Jyllandsposten, whose strong image reminds us that we are a country at war and
that it is not without its human cost.
The awards committee noted that the glance the soldier sends to his deceased comrades coffin embodies the
fragile moment where the belief in the immortality of youth is replaced by another reality.
Søren Bidstrup, Berlingske Tidende, is Danish Press Photographer of the Year. He was the awards committee’s first and immediate choice.
The quality and breath of his picture selection shows that he is not only a talented ‘all-round’ photographer but that he also delivers exeptional work.
The image from the Afghan training camp convinced the jury that it was a timeless and historic picture, up there among the best in the world.
The bodybilders are captured at just the precise moment that shows pure vanity rather than the people involved. The sophisticated portrait of actress Sonja Richter
shows us a photographer that has the ability to control gravity and lastly his series from the Beltane Fire Festival in Scotland was among the jury’s favorite.
News image of the year is taken by Jacob Ehrbahn, Politiken, from a series taken over a long period and covering the ‘Youth House’ riots in Copenhagen 2007 -
this series is complete and the coverage comprises very strong individual images.
The Danish Press Photography Awards for 2007/2008 gives the opportunity, for better or worse, to revive and relive significant news and events that marked the past year.
Photographs taken by many of our best photographers where every situation has its own life.
Opening hours: Tuesday to Sunday 11-17.
