Photographic Center is pleased to present an exhibition with this year's recipients of Fogtdals Photographer Awards '09. It is the sixth year that Danish photographers are awarded funds. The exhibition lends an insight into the artists that the jury has chosen this year.
Fogtdals Photographer Awards consist of an award of 250,000 DKK that is given to a photographer who has made a considerable contribution to Danish photography. The other five annual awards are travel grants of 50.000 DKK each. They are given to photographers who made a positive impression and deserve encouragement to further develop their talent and work.
The Selection Committee consists of Per Folkver, Lars Schwander and Torben Weirup.
Palle Fogtdal is responsible for choosing who receives the main award.
DKK 250,000 goes to: Jacob Holdt
Travel grants of DKK 50,000 goes to:
Mads Gamdrup,
Tove Kurtzweil,
Finn Larsen,
Trine Søndergaard / Nicolai Howalt and
Signe Vad
Jacob Holdt receives the award primarily because he has managed to emulate much of what his predecessor, Jacob A. Riis did: By using photography in such a way that it changes public opinion. To such a extent that those who have seen the extensive series "American Pictures - a personal journey through black America" about the relationship between rich and poor in the United States, either as a slideshow or in book form, have not gone unaffected by the encounter with these photographs .
Opening hours: Tuesday to Sunday 11-17
