Fotografisk Center has the pleasure of presenting, for the first time in a long time, an exhibition with historical perspective: Princess Margrethe. An exhibition which begins the year of Margrethe's baptism in 1940 and ends with Margrethe's coronation in 1972. Furthermore, we show an homage to the Queen's photographer Rigmor Mydtskov who died on 15th February this year.
In 1996 the Fotografisk Center organized the exhibition "Margrethe II - Portrait of a Queen" at the Round Tower (Rundetårn) in Copenhagen. A show that was seen by more than 50,000 people. The exhibition and accompanying book by Tove Kurtzweil and Lars Schwander was extremely well received by the public and critics alike.
Since then the collection has been augmented by a series of rare and original photographs, color images by Anne Marie Lindquist, and black and white pictures by Inga Aistrup. The exhibition consists of original photographs, magazine covers, etc..
The successor to the Danish throne was first photographed by Rigmor Mydtskov on the 7th May 1963 (the picture is also included in the exhibition) and in the ensuing years there was much cooperation between the two of them. Rigmor Mydtskov was honored with the title "Photographer to Her Majesty the Queen," which she retained until her death.
