NOVEMBER 28TH   -   JANUARY 17TH 2010

Fotografisk Center is pleased to present Lasse Ernlund Lorentzen's exhibition "SAVE THE WORLD - NOT or big L contemplation room". Fotografisk Center has - during COP15, The United Nations Climate Change Conference - with minimal resources been turned into a lounge that acknowledges the climate challenges that face the world.

The exhibition is an extension of Lorentzen's final exam project for The Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts, a co-production that resulted in "MILES - a sustainable solution for truck transportation", inserted into an art institutional framework. "SAVE THE WORLD - NOT or big L contemplation room" has, as its title suggests, contrary to his exam project work, no ambition to save the world, but instead examines photographicaly how the world is evolving.

Concurrent with the environmental issues of the day that are the focus of the COP15 climate summit the show not only illustrates these issues in an aesthetic exhibition space but also with the general media coverage of the event and more importantly the underlying climate challenge.

The exhibition is constructed utilising Fotografisk Centers new exhibition space, where Lorenzen has modified the structure by producing new furniture and creating sound designs that complement the photographs. The space acknowledges global industrializations role in the climate crisis. Energy and transport in the form of infrastructure solutions, historical relics and mythological sites are the common themes on display. The images give a sense of a historical presence that generates a visual longing, through a temporal implosion both in and out of the picture frame.

The installation as a whole invites the audience to meet, discuss and reflect on the exhibition's overall theme, the climate challenge and the subsequent media exposure that entails. Morten Skrøder Lund, in collaboration with Lorentzen created the sound design for the exhibition. There will be a performance by Lasse Ernlund Lorentzen, Lars Schwander Skrøder and Morten Lund at the exhibition opening.

The exhibition has received funding by The Danish Arts Council.
